12/31/2009: "On a Good Note"
Exit 2009. On a good note. Sung by Tom Wilson and the Sons of the Hammer in the heart of The Hammer itself. The kind of note that moves around to make a melody, gets together with its friends to make cacophony and bounces up and down like a maniac in response to a screaming guitar.
The kind of note that rang this old year in, as I reflect on it. From the Chicken Deli to the Cashab, its fifty miles but quite a few steps. Not all of them have been graceful.
"You never sit one out," I read that somewhere. A piece of wisdom to mean that we are always choosing, always moving, backward or forward in relation to our dreams and aspirations.
Whether we do or whether we don't, I know that I don't want to - sit this one out. I've done my share of wallflowering, watching from the sidelines as other dancers took to the floor. Now that I've found my feet again, I won't be sitting down.
Here are three quotes in place of three morals before I head out for the night.
1. "Dancing is the poetry of the foot." John Dryden
2. "Those who can't dance say the music is no good." Jamaican Proverb
3. "On with the dance! Let joy be unconfined." Lord Byron
with creativity and imagination,

p.s. Four hours, four inch heels - and not once did we sit down. Happy New Year one and all!
