05/11/2010: "Faithful"
"What another would have done as well as you, do not do it. What another would have said as well as you, do not say it. What another would have written as well as you, do not write it. Be faithful to that which exists nowhere but in yourself - and thus make yourself indispensable." Andre Gide
Andre Gide was a French author who won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1947. His work is an investigation of the struggle for personal freedom, self expression and empowerment within moralistic constraints. So of course it speaks to me.
Three more pieces of wisdom from Gide:
1. "It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for something you are not."
2. "The most beautiful things are those that madness prompts and reason writes."
3. "Work and struggle and never accept an evil that you can change."
Yours with creativity and imagination,
Darlene
